PREZ SEZ – A message from Sandie Newton, your President
Hi everyone,
A special welcome back to Rod Harris , our coach. Rod will again be working with the juniors
primarily but we will also offer each interclub team the 1 hour coaching we
have done in the past. So captains liaise with Rod and book your time. Private
coaching will also be available as in the past.
The juniors begin their interclub this weekend so we wish
them a successful season also.
Many thanks to those who took the time to attend the working
bee that was held recently. The courts and surrounds are looking tidier. Thanks
also to Midweek for cleaning the club rooms.
On Friday October 31st 5 representatives from the committee will attend a special
presentation for clubs that have achieved their “Clubmark” awards. We are proud to have achieved this as one of
the smaller clubs in the North Harbour region and I will take a photo of us
receiving this award to forward on to Glen Oliver, our principal architect.
Previously I have deliberately tried to steer clear of
mentioning names for “ hatching, matching and dispatching” as you always miss
someone out. But I want to mention a special birthday for a special woman. Kay
Graham is celebrating her 70th this weekend and on behalf of the club I would
like to wish her all the best. She has been an inspiration in times of
adversity and always there with a helping hand when required. Cheers Kay and
Happy Birthday from Glenfield Tennis Club.
Sandie
These are to be held on Sunday November 2nd probably
from 1pm, this will be dependent on numbers. Partners names will be drawn out
of a hat. To enter either put your name on the notice board or contact Andrea
Jordan on ph 444 9599.
BIRKENHEAD
FRIENDLY SHIELD
This years challenge is to be held at the Glenfield Club on Sunday November 19th at 10am
and our players will provide lunch. 8 Men & 8 women are required from the 1st
grade to 3rd grade teams. Please contact Scott Jordan on ph 444 9599 or put your name on the
list on the notice board if you want to play.
KAIPATIKI CUP
CHALLENGE
We need to win this cup back from Beachhaven club. Sunday 30th
November 12.30pm at Beachhaven is the time to do it. We require as many members
as possible as this will be our club day as well. This is a fun and social
event for all abilities.
SINGLES LADDER
The singles ladders have been sorted out to include only
current singles players in grading list order. So it is now open for challenges
from anyone. The forms and rules are on the seniors notice board.
The co-ordinator of the ladder will be Vergel Villaruel ph 410 3911. So please let him know your
result so that he can update both the website and the ladder itself.
SENIOR NZ
EASTER TOURNAMENT 2009
Senior Tennis NZ will be using our 6 courts for their Easter
Tournament commencing Friday 10th to Sunday 12th April.
Ross Morrison has asked if we are able to provide club
members to assist on any of those days.
If any club member has some time during the Easter break
please let Sandie or Maureen know and we can pass your names onto Ross. We will
provide you with further information nearer the time.
TNZ is promoting a free membership card for all affiliated
members. This card will provide opportunities for clubs to identify their
members and over time grant benefits via discounts and promotions.
We will be providing the basic information, name, club,
membership type and expiry date and gender only. No other personal information
will be supplied. All data will comply with all obligations under the privacy
act. Membership data will only be used for tennis related purposes and will not
be sold to third parties.
We are still requiring used tennis racquets for the Juniors
to use on a Saturday morning.
CANTEEN PRICES
The committee have reviewed the current prices and have
decided to approve a small increase on one item. The new price lists are
displayed, so please take the time to look at them before purchasing.
If you have emptied the fridge after a successful interclub
match please take the time to restock
afterwards. Just like you do at home.
MIDWEEK
The Midweek members are still requiring items for their
trading stall ask friends or neighbours if they will donate good condition hard
or paper back books. Also baking, preserves, pot plants and crafts. There will
be someone at the club rooms to receive items on the afternoon & evening of
the 5th November. Please contact Mary Aldersley on 410 4699 if you
need help to drop off items.
The stall is being held on Thursday 6th November
from 9.30am and Sunday 9th November at the Clubhouse so bring along
money to spend and get some great bargains.
The GTC Recipe Book will be on sale shortly for $10 per
book. Our thanks to Pauline Jenkins and Alliance Print for printing this free
of charge.
Midweek are also holding a Fun Tournament on Thursday 23rd
October 9.30 am at the club. It is a Black & White Theme and please bring a
plate to share.
Thank you to Glenda Dakers for once again co-ordinating the
selling of the books and to those club members who also sold books to their
family and friends. 82 books were sold and the club benefited by $1076.00.
